People in Bodai Kaura, Dange Shuni local government area of Sokoto, used to struggle with water shortages. They had to walk long distances to rivers just to get water.
Now, with the state government’s solar-powered boreholes, reliable water transforms daily life in the community.
Abubakar Magaiji, a resident, recalled, “We used to walk 3 to 4 kilometres to rivers for water. Now, water is available in our homes, and no one fetches from the river anymore.”
Malam Muhammadu Gamau, the District Head, accentuated, “Our water problem is over; we now have water at our doorstep.”

Commenting during the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Sokoto Council’s tour of projects across the state’s local government areas, the traditional leader noted that other government projects, especially upgraded health facilities, have significantly improved healthcare in the area.
In Bodinga local government, resident Nafisa Muhammad said that with improved hospitals, more women now choose to deliver at the facilities, reducing the number of home births in the area.
