Professor Muhamad Oboirien, a distinguished lecturer at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, has received the Sir Ahmadu Bello Platinum Leadership Award from the Northern Peace Foundation (NPF), a foremost body representing the Northern Nigerian Youth Movement.
The awardee, a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital, UDUTH, Sokoto, and Okumagbe of Ihievbe (Unifier), was honoured as the ‘Icon of Societal Leadership’ in recognition of his exceptional service to the nation, unwavering dedication to humanity, passion for empowering youth, and transformative impact on societal development across northern Nigeria and beyond.
Presenting the award. Comrade Abdullahi Yahuza, Sokoto State NPF Coordinator, said it was in recognition of his tremendous achievements in the areas of purposeful leadership, self-sacrifice, societal transformation, courage and determination to embrace all, irrespective of tribe, ethnicity, and religion, and dedicated service to nation-building.
“As a leading voice in national transformation, he has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the development of Nigerian youth,” remarked Yahuza.
“His bold and pragmatic approach to leadership has earned him a reputation as a bridge builder, mentor, father figure to many. By promoting unity and uplifting the youth, he has instilled confidence and inspired a new generation of leaders.”
The NPF coordinator noted that Prof Oboirien’s invaluable insight played a critical role in shaping Nigerian youth. Nigerian students, particularly from the North, he added, place their confidence in him, inspired by his exemplary track record.
“This Award stands as a tribute to your legendary achievements, offering encouragement and best wishes as you continue to uplift society, truly making you ‘First Among Equals.’”
With this honour, the NPF adopted Professor Oboirien as a role model, a beacon of hope, a patron, and a guiding light for Northern Nigerian youth.
NPF expressed confidence that they will continue to learn from the awardee’s skilled and effective leadership, drawing valuable lessons for the future.
