Nigerians performing the lesser Hajj in Mecca, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, have been advised to refrain from using vulgar language or criticizing the nation’s leadership while offering prayers during the holy month of Ramadan.
Yusuf Dingyadi, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), appealed in a statement issued to journalists in Sokoto on Sunday.
Dingyadi, who is currently in Saudi Arabia performing the Ramadan lesser Hajj alongside other Muslims from across the globe, noted that those praying against Nigeria and its leadership are contributing to the continued crises bedevilling the country.
He expressed concern that some Nigerians have been captured in social media videos abusing, cursing, or openly criticizing certain political leaders in front of the Holy Ka’abah, a place where decorum, reverence, and fear of Almighty God are expected above anywhere else in the world.
According to him, those who travel to the Holy Land should do so with the intention of making sacrifices, offering prayers, and seeking divine forgiveness, rather than displaying anger or casting aspersions on leaders over challenges often associated with governance.
Dingyadi urged Nigerians performing the pilgrimage to focus on praying fervently for the unity, peace, and progress of the country rather than engaging in negative prayers against the nation and its leaders.
He noted that this call is particularly important as Muslims observe the last ten days of Ramadan — a period regarded as spiritually significant for seeking Allah’s mercy, guidance, and blessings.
He also called on leaders at all levels not to become a burden to the people, but to remain steadfast in addressing the numerous challenges confronting the nation, particularly insecurity, poverty, and injustice.
