Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu has tasked the newly elected 23 local government chairmen with positively impacting their localities.
He delivered a speech during the swearing-in ceremony at the government house in Sokoto.
The governor urged them to give security the desired attention, pointing out that tackling insecurity is one of his nine-point agenda.
He also stressed the need for them to explore more ways to improve their internally generated revenue to meet their subjects’ expectations.
Dr. Aliyu advised zero tolerance for corruption, urging them to live above board and ensure democracy’s dividend to their people at the grassroots.
He harped on the need for the council chairman to always be accessible to their people, stressing the importance of maintaining a direct line of communication and connection with the people they serve.
The state Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Hon. Ibrahim Dadi Adare, had earlier promised that the ministry would provide the newly sworn-in local government chairmen with an orientation to familiarise them with the functions of the local government councils.
