BUA Cement Plc, on Thursday, launched the distribution of vital agricultural supplies to the first batch of 300 farmers, resettled from communities in Wamakko Local Government Area, Sokoto.
Worth N400 million, the package provides tools for both the dry and rainy seasons, including improved maize and rice seeds, sweet potato seedlings, fertilisers, and pesticides, under the BUA Cement Sustainable Livelihood Restoration Programme.
The Managing Director, Engineer Yusuf Binji, announced that beneficiaries will receive training in modern farming techniques.
The MD, represented by Sada Suleiman, Director of Corporate Affairs Services, added that training would help beneficiaries adopt efficient cultivation methods, improve crop yields, enhance food security, and contribute to the growth of the local economy.
He acknowledged the struggles of resettled communities which he said motivated the company to create a support programme.
Engineer Binji highlighted that the programme sought to rebuild community confidence and empower farmers to carry out their ancestral occupation of farming, a mission the company considers both a duty and a top priority.
