The Sokoto State Government has officially opened the Gande–Male–Gwahitto–Fako road, which will benefit thousands of residents and farmers who depend on it for daily travel, trade, and access to essential services.
“This intervention will undoubtedly reduce travel time, improve rural mobility, enhance market access, and stimulate agricultural productivity along this vital corridor,” Governor Ahmad Aliyu disclosed at the commissioning of the 7.7km rural road project.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment, Governor Aliyu proudly announced that the 7.7 km rural road project, awarded at a cost of N2,201,795,208.10, was completed to 100% satisfaction, meeting all required standards and specifications.
The 7.7 km rural road project, a joint effort with the World Bank under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), now connects communities in the Silame and Binji Local Government areas, enhancing access to essential services and markets.
“The RAAMP initiative aims to improve rural access and agricultural marketing across participating states while building a strong institutional and financial framework for the sustainable development and management of rural roads,” Aliyu explained.
“We are proud to be active partners in this project, which is designed not only to reduce the cost of transporting farm inputs and produce but also to minimize post-harvest losses through the provision of improved market access and supporting storage infrastructure.”
The governor described the project as a clear demonstration of his administration’s rural transformation agenda and a milestone in its commitment to opening up rural communities, strengthening agricultural productivity, and improving the quality of life for the people.
“To our farmers, transporters, and small business owners, I say to you: this road is yours; use it wisely; take ownership. And let it serve as a platform for growth and prosperity,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering dedication to rural development, agricultural modernization, and infrastructural renewal. “We shall continue to invest in projects that directly touch the lives of our people and strengthen the economy of our great State,” he assured.
It’s the connection between People, Prosperity – Gov Ododo
Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo, who commissioned the road, noted it as a “connection between people and prosperity.”
Ododo pointed out that “by improving access across local communities,” “you have empowered farmers, traders, commuters, and entrepreneurs; this is how governance meets the grassroots.”
The Kogi Governor thanked President Bola Tinubu for his courageous leadership and empowering states to succeed.” Mr. President will surely be proud of what Sokoto state has achieved under this administration.”
