Senator Aliyu Wamakko, the All Progressives Congress party leader in Sokoto, has called on newly elected local government chairmen in the state to ensure diligent service to the people.
The former governor stressed this while speaking at the state’s recently concluded local council elections.
He underlined the need for the chairmen to understand their role as service providers, not rulers, in his advice to the newly elected officials.
“My advice for those who emerged is for them to understand that they are elected to serve, not to rule,” he stressed.
“The essence is to serve people, not to rule them.”
The party helmsman reminded the new local government chairmen that the electorate had given their time, queuing for hours to vote for them, emphasising the significant role the people played in their election and the accountability it brings.
“So once the vote is over, the challenge is for those elected to go and pay back by serving diligently with utmost fear of God,” the senator who represents Sokoto North district pointed out.
“That’s what we hope to see from everyone elected, including myself.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won all the seats contested in the September 21 local government elections in Sokoto State.
