Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto has reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring every resident can access safe drinking water and improving the state road infrastructure.
He spoke during the commissioning of the Tamaje Water Scheme and some completed road projects in the Mabera area of the state metropolis.
His Edo State counterpart, Monday Okpebholo, inaugurated the projects as part of the ongoing second anniversary commemoration of the Governor Ahmed Aliyu administration.
Ahmad Aliyu extolled a former Sokoto governor, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, during whose administration the water scheme was initiated.
“Today, we build on that foundation to ensure continuity, progress, and sustainability in service to our people,” Aliyu declared.
“This water scheme is among the six critical water schemes we are completing, which include the Tamaje Water Scheme, Old Airport Water Scheme, Gagi Water Scheme, Mana Water Scheme, Runjin Sambo Water Scheme and Ruga Liman Water Scheme.”
The Governor stated that the six water projects, awarded at N14,138,289,057, were intended to enhance urban water availability, thereby improving the health and well-being of the residents. He added that the Tamaji water scheme is designed to supply 3 million gallons of water daily, while all six water schemes together will provide 40 million gallons daily, ensuring a consistent and reliable water supply for the people of Sokoto State.
Recognising the anticipation and hope the projects bring, he committed to monitoring the remaining four water projects to ensure their timely completion and commissioning.
During commissioning some completed road projects in the Mabera area of the state metropolis, Governor Aliyu stated, “These are not just roads; they are lifelines as they represent access, mobility, safety and dignity for the people of Mabera.”
The roads include the Chima-Rai Jumuat Mosque Road to Mabera Roundabout, with an expenditure of N502,032,233.68 and the Unguwar Rogo Police Station Junction to Mabera Roundabout, 1.32 km, with a total cost of N729,810,436.30.
Others encompass the 800-meter Mabera Roundabout to Musa Lukuwa Jumu’at Mosque, leading to the Eastern Bypass, which has a contract value of N756,022,851.673.
The Governor of Edo state commended his host for the initiatives, emphasising that these endeavours extend beyond mere infrastructure to enhance the everyday experiences of the residents of Sokoto significantly.
