Northwest University, Sokoto (NWUS), has described as fraudulent an admission notice circulating online and across social media platforms, which claims that the institution has released its 2026/2027 first and second batch admission lists.
The university highlighted that the misleading notice provides a telephone number, 07073682223, and identifies an individual as “Dr Mrs Mary”, who allegedly instructs applicants to check their admission status, process clearance, pay school fees, and secure admission in subsequent batches.
In a statement issued by the Directorate of Communications, Public Affairs, and Protocol on Thursday, August 27, 2026, it was made clear that the notice did not originate from the university.
The statement warned that unscrupulous individuals are attempting to exploit prospective students and their families by taking advantage of their desire to gain admission.
While advising prospective students, parents, and guardians to be vigilant against the fraudulent admission notice, the university emphasised that it does not require prospective students to make payments to individuals through private arrangements to secure admission.
It further stated that it does not authorise individuals to use personal telephone numbers to offer admission, conduct clearance, collect school fees, or guarantee applicants places in its programmes.
NWUS urged prospective students to ignore the telephone number and instructions contained in the fraudulent notice.
It advised them to refrain from sending money or disclosing personal or admission-related information through unauthorised channels.
Additionally, the university stressed the importance of being cautious of individuals who claim they can check admission lists, secure admission, process clearance, or guarantee placement in exchange for payment, as such offers should be considered potential fraud.
According to NWUS, all admission-related information, including the release of admission lists, admission procedures, school fees, and other official updates, will be communicated through its authorised channels.
The university also urged parents and guardians to inform their children and wards about the scam and to verify any admission-related information directly with the university before making payments or taking any action.
Members of the public were advised to contact the university through its official telephone line, 0704-269-9999, for verification of admission-related information.
NWUS reiterated its call for the public to disregard the circulating notice and to rely solely on information issued through its official communication channels.
The university reiterated its commitment to upholding a transparent and credible admission process, ensuring the protection of prospective students and their families from fraudulent activities.
