BUA Cement Sokoto has donated drugs, cement, uniform and exercise books worth N115 million to its host communities with a call on the local government council to put in monitoring mechanisms to ensure that they fully utilise the donations for the benefit of the people.
The items presented at the Wamakko local government headquarters were part of the company’s social responsibility initiatives.
“More than ever before, BUA Cement Company is dedicated to offering such kind gestures to its host communities every year to provide them with easy access to medical care in their clinics at no costs,” stated Engineer Yusuf Binji, Managing Director/CEO BUA Cement Plc.
The Managing Director, represented by the Head of Administration and Corporate Services, Sada Suleiman, shed more light on the gestures.
“Initially, we distribute and donate drugs to only eight clinics, namely Wajeje, Arkila, Kalambaina, Sabon Gari Alu, Bakin Kusu, Gidan Boka/Gidan Marafa, Gidan Bailu/Gidan Datti and Mobile Police Barracks,” he said
“Due to popular request and benefit of the gesture to their communities, the company deemed it appropriate to add and extend to another six clinics across the local government so that people within these communities will also benefit.”
He listed the additional ones for Gumbi, Arkilah Federal Low-cost, Farfaru, Beni Village, Asare and Kaura Kimba clinics.
Engr Binji stressed the drugs are free and not to be sold to the people.
To assist the people in effecting some repairs on communal facilities such as mosques, cemeteries, drainages and other facilities to prepare for the rainy season, he said the company donated cement to 68 communities.
The BUA Cement Sokoto helmsman added they distributed exercise books to 12 primary schools across the local government and uniforms to Sabon Gari Alu Primary School, Khalifah Isyaku Rabiu Primary School Gidan Bailu/Gidan Datti.
On scholarship, he said from inception in 2017 to date, 150 students have benefited from the scheme, out of which 47 have graduated while 103 are currently on the company’s payroll.
The Managing Director disclosed they will issue 55 scholarship slots this year and the next academic session, bringing the number of students on scholarship to 158.
A breakdown of the 55 slots showed Wamakko got 20, Sokoto 15, Zamfara 10 and Kebbi 10.
