A former governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, has called for enhanced strategies to curb the spate of insecurity, which has continued unabated with the threat to food security and other negative consequences.
“We have to put more effort in halting the disturbing insecurity because it will lead to food security, force millions from their ancestral homes, increase rural-urban migration and jacked up out of school by over half a million,” he stated.
“Now, it has got to where farmers are levied, disallowed or banned completely from accessing their farms if they cannot meet the conditions set by these terrorists.”
He expressed concern over the devastating situations, especially in the rural communities across the country, adding that no part of Nigeria is immune to the threat of terrorists masquerading as bandits.
“I can tell you without mincing words that insecurity is at its peak in Nigeria as it is now. And should the trend continue unabated, Nigeria is likely face food security soon, in addition to the security of lives not guaranteed.”
The former governor, also a chieftain, urged leaders at all levels to rise to the occasion to tackle the threat.
He pointed out the topmost priority of every commoner in Nigeria is how to feed himself and his family.
“‘No doubt, Nigeria is being confronted with many problems, but it must be addressed one after the other. Let politicians stop their honeymoon and remember that a serious problem is looming ahead,” the erstwhile governor added.
“Therefore, I am urging leaders that are given responsibilities of the nation to take it seriously before it is too late.”
