The Sokoto State Government has stressed commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of the people, adding that it prioritises the provision of primary healthcare services.
Deputy Governor, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya spoke when he received Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Faisal Shu’aib and his team, including WHO Deputy Country Representative in Nigeria, Dr Alex Chibani, and UNICEF Chief of Health Country Officer in Nigeria, Eduardo Celades.
They were at the Deputy Governor’s office to brief him on the outcome of the 2-day meeting between Sokoto State Government, the agency, and donor agencies on the challenges and way forward on Sokoto state’s primary healthcare activities.
Daniya, who is the Sokoto state chair on Polio Eradication and Routine Immunisation, said the Governor Aminu Tambuwal-led government had enhanced primary healthcare across the 23 local councils in Sokoto.
The Deputy Governor assured that the present administration in the state would not rest on its oars in ensuring accessibility of essential healthcare.
He underscored the efforts of The Ministry of Health in partnership with the Primary Healthcare Agency, the 23 local government councils and the Sultanate Council in making sure people in the rural areas get required treatments within their locality.
“Sokoto state government has done its best on its counterpart funding with local and international agencies and foundations to see Sokoto reached the top spot in health provision to its citizens,” he disclosed,
The Deputy Governor, also the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, noted NPHCDA’s efforts towards best global practices.
Earlier, Dr Shu’aib highlighted issues of staff remuneration of LGs, the low turnout of Covid-19 vaccinations in LGs, maternal mortality, and growing pockets of resistance to childhood vaccinations.
He noted the need to boost efforts in tackling the issues.
