The Sokoto State Government has earmarked N1 billion for the 2026 Ramadan Feeding Programme, aiming to serve 34,000 wholesome meals each day to the state’s most vulnerable residents.
“I can assure you all that the meals would be hygienic, well-packaged and of high quality,” asserted
Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the official flagged off the programme at the History Bureau in Sokoto.
“Ad- hoc staff have been engaged to ensure smooth operations throughout Ramadan.”
Responding to the community’s call, the governor announced an increase in the number of feeding centres from 155 to 170, each set to serve about 200 people at a time.
He called the initiative as a significant social intervention intended to lighten the load for fasting Muslims and to inspire compassion, unity, and strong community support throughout the holy month.
The Sokoto helmsman described the feeding initiative as part of the administration’s broader strategy to promote Islamic values and improve social welfare.
He highlighted that, since its launch 19 years ago under former governor Aliyu Wamakko, the programme has been a steady source of relief for thousands.
The Governor urged religious organisations, philanthropists, and the public to support government efforts by assisting the less privileged.
Jabir Sani Maihulla, Commissioner for Religious Affairs, inspired committee members to approach their responsibilities with heartfelt sincerity, steadfast discipline, and unwavering devotion.
Aliyu Attahiru, Chairman of the Ramadan Feeding Committee, assured the public that every detail has been carefully arranged to guarantee openness and smooth, efficient service throughout Ramadan.
