Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has described education as the best way to empower women.
“I believe in women empowerment, and the best way to empower women is by giving them education,” he stated while speaking with journalists in Sokoto.
“We believe that if you give women serious education, they can do well; they can even do better than a number of us.”
He said that was why his administration established the Girls Science Academy, Kasarawa and many other projects to boost girls’ education and advance women’s empowerment.
Commenting on his administration’s record of appointing many women to leadership positions in the state, the governor noted women’s empowerment as a legacy of the renowned leader of the Sokoto Caliphate, Sheikh Usman bin Fodio.
“We sustained a legacy of women’s inclusion in governance and leadership of the state; it is not my legacy; it is a legacy of Sheikh Usman Bin-Fodio,” he stated.
“When you go back to history and read about the story of Nana-Asmau during the days of Jihad and after Jihad, the role she played, not only in recognising women within their age group, not only on education but also making sure that they have a pride place in leadership.”
