Residents across various communities in Zamfara State have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, over the improved security situation witnessed during the Eid Kabir celebrations in the state.
Many residents who spoke with journalists in Gusau, Kaura Namoda, Talata Mafara, and other parts of the state expressed satisfaction with the relative peace recorded during the festive period.
The development, according to a cross-section of residents interviewed has allowed families and traders to celebrate without fear of attacks or disruption.
Idris Abubakar Dangulbi, a political leader, Maru Local Government of the State attributed the peaceful atmosphere to the renewed military operations and coordinated security measures introduced by the Federal Government under the administration of President Tinubu.
He also commended the support and strategic interventions championed by Muhammed Bello Matawalle in his capacity as Minister of State for Defence.
Another resident, Malam Ibrahim Lawal, said the improved security situation enabled people to travel freely to celebrate Eid Kabir with their loved ones.
“This is one of the few festive periods in recent years where many families could move around with less fear. Markets were active, roads were busier, and people attended prayers peacefully,” he said.
Similarly, traders in major markets across the state reported increased commercial activities during the Sallah celebrations, stressing that improved security boosted public confidence and economic activities.
Rukayya Sani, a foodstuff dealer in Talata Mafara, noted that businesses witnessed significant patronage during the celebrations compared to previous years.
“We thank the government and security agencies for their efforts. This Sallah was more peaceful, and many traders recorded better sales because people were confident enough to come out and celebrate,” she stated.
Chairman, Zamfara State Progressive Development Union (ZAPPU) Dr Aliyu Sadauki Gusau (Makaman Garewa) acknowledged the efforts of security personnel deployed to flashpoints across the state, saying the visible presence of troops contributed greatly to maintaining peace during the festivities.
He urged the Federal Government and security agencies not to relent in sustaining ongoing operations against banditry and other criminal activities affecting communities in the North-West region.
He further appealed for continuous support to security operatives through improved logistics, intelligence gathering, and community engagement to consolidate the gains already recorded.
A security expert, Major Ibrahim Musa Danmairogo (rtd) expressed optimism that the ongoing security efforts would further restore lasting peace and stability across the state.
“The gallant troops that are battling day and night to ensure security and safety of the people must be appraised. The improved security on the corridor of Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto are commendable and give greater hope to the peasant farmers, travellers and other communities in these areas.” He explained.
