The Sokoto government says it has taken bold steps to revitalise the state’s media landscape and elevate the quality of public information services.
Alhaji Sambo Bello Danchadi, State Commissioner of Information and Orientation, disclosed this at the Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Sokoto Council.
“In Sokoto State, under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, PhD, the government recognises the media as a vital partner in the implementation of the Nine-Point Agenda,” he stated.
“To strengthen the media landscape and enhance public information services, the state government has embarked on strengthening its Media outfits.”
He revealed that the State Government had transformed the Sokoto State Media Corporation, including the installation of new Transmitters for Rima FM and the provision of modern broadcasting gadgets for both Rima Radio and Rima Television.
He noted that these efforts were already boosting signal clarity, widening broadcast reach, and enriching the content delivered to the people.
“Similarly, a new modern studio has been provided at the Ministry of Information Headquarters, strengthening our capacity for content production and public enlightenment,” he disclosed.
“In addition, the Ministry has commenced the publication of a quarterly bulletin, alongside several radio programmes designed to highlight and propagate the giant achievements of this administration across all sectors.”
He thanked the NUJ Sokoto State Chapter for organising the recent State Government Projects Tour.
“The tour has greatly boosted the dissemination of accurate and reliable information on government activities and achievements across both urban and rural communities,” he noted.
“For our part, the Ministry of Information will continue to support the media through collaboration, capacity building, and open access to information that promotes transparency and accountability.”
Earlier, Comrade Usman Mohammed Binji, Chairman of the NUJ Sokoto State Council, expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for granting approval for a comprehensive project monitoring tour across selected local government areas.
“Our members were able to see firsthand the array of development projects executed by the Governor and the leadership of the various local government councils,” Binji stated.
“From infrastructural works to community-impact projects, the tour offered valuable insights and demonstrated the administration’s efforts in improving the lives of citizens.”
He added: “We remain grateful to the Sokoto State Government for its cooperation, openness, and recognition of the important role journalists play in promoting transparency and accountability.”
