Muhammad Abdullahi Sokoto, a former Chairman of the Sokoto State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has urged private media owners to invest in staff training and development, emphasising that well-trained teams deliver higher quality content that truly serves their growing audiences.
He stressed that private media owners carry the vital responsibility of continually training their staff, ensuring that the audience receives top-notch service and maintains their trust in the organisations.
The veteran was speaking on the sidelines of a One-Day Workshop with the theme, “Accurate Judicial Reporting and Responsible News Writing,” organised by the Sokoto State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
Abdullahi, who once managed the News and Current Affairs Department at the State Media Corporation, praised the seminar as timely and insightful, applauding the Council’s vision in organising workshops that boost members’ skills and performance.
He pointed out that staff training as primarily the responsibility of media proprietors, noting NUJ as playing a complimentary role.
He encouraged private media owners to follow the example of the Sokoto State Government, which has consistently invested in staff training and revitalised its electronic media, working collectively to advance the state.
The former chairman commended media proprietors for creating job opportunities for young people, recognising their role in building the state’s human capital and economic growth.
He further praised the dedication and perseverance of private media staff, who continue to deliver quality, educational content despite facing challenges and limited training opportunities.
