The BUA Cement Sokoto Plant has awarded scholarships totalling N40 million to 200 students from tertiary institutions across Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara, opening doors to brighter futures.
The recipients included 50 each from the three states and an additional 50 for Wamakko Local Government Area, the immediate host community.
Each student received N200,000, a 100 percent increase from previous years. The number of recipients also doubled.
Speaking at the Scholarship Award ceremony, BUA Cement’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr Yusuf Binji, said the management raised the scholarship from N100,000 per student to N200,000 and also increased the number from 100 to 200 students.
“At BUA Cement, we believe education transforms lives,” asserted the CEO who was represented by Plant Director Engr. Aminu Bashir.
Engr Binji described the scholarships as an investment in the future and a vital step toward building sustainable communities.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of this opportunity, assuring them that the company would closely follow their academic journeys.
The BUA Cement boss expressed gratitude to the Sokoto State government for creating an environment for businesses to thrive.
Engr. Aliyu Gumel, Head of Health, Community, Safety, and Environment, explained that the goal was to empower deserving students from host states to reach their full potential.
He added that through the programme, they hope to make a lasting impact across the states and the nation.

BUA’s Director of Administration and Corporate Affairs, Muhammed Sada, said the scholarship, launched in 2019, was designed to complement government efforts in education and to prepare future talent for the company.
In a remark, the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara the Scholarship Board, Professor Rashida Usman, lauded BUA for the opportunity created, describing education as the bedrock of development.
Yusuf Abubakar, Kebbi State Director of Student Affairs, praised BUA’s dedication to education as a beacon of hope for underprivileged students, noting its significance for the state’s and the country’s future.
Hon. Usman Arzika Fako, Sokoto State Special Adviser on Corporate Social Responsibility, described the scholarship as a powerful boost for both education and youth empowerment.
He applauded the cement company for the initiative, which he said aligned with the state government’s focus on education as one of the 9-point agenda of the Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto-led administration.
Alhaji Umar Dundaye, Chairman of Wamakko Local Government Council, thanked BUA for the initiative and highlighted the company’s support in healthcare, water supply, educational infrastructure, empowerment, and electricity.
Bilikisu Bello Mohammed, a beneficiary from Kebbi, described BUA as a beacon of hope and progress, expressing gratitude for the company’s unwavering support and investment in their future.
Umar Bello, a beneficiary from Zamfara, shared heartfelt appreciation to the company for uplifting their education and opening new doors for their future.
