Relief is on the way. Sokoto residents will purchase rice at subsidised rates, easing the financial burden on many households.
To cushion the hardships, the Sokoto state government has approved the acquisition of 300 trucks of assorted rice. The public will purchase these at a significantly reduced price of 40–45%, making them more affordable and relieving many households of the financial strain of buying rice at regular market prices.
Alhaji Ibrahim Dadi Adare, the state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, disclosed this during a press briefing on the outcome of the state executive meeting chaired by Governor Amed Aliyu at Sokoto Government House.
He stated that the state and local governments co-sponsored the initiative to ease the people’s adversity.
The Commissioner added they would distribute the commodity among the 23 local government areas, with each of Sokoto’s 244 wards receiving one truckload of rice to sell to the public.
The Commissioner said they would package the rice in 50, 25, or 10 kg quantities, contingent upon the purchasers’ requirements.
He stated that the government would soon form committees to oversee the exercise’s execution.
Adare reassured the public that the rice would be available to all, irrespective of political leanings, underscoring the government’s commitment to serving and valuing all residents.
