Commissioner for Education Alhaji Tukur Alkali has revealed that Sokoto State has trained 3,000 almajirai in skill acquisition.
Speaking at a press briefing on Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto’s one year in office, he said in collaboration with UNICEF, they built two child-friendly centres for Almajiri Qur’anic teaching and skill training.
The centres are at Kalalawa and Makerar Shuni in Kware and Dange Shuni local government areas, respectively.
He also said the Arabic Board upgraded three additional community Arabic secondary schools.
The following schools are included: Barade Salihu Community Arabic Secondary School, Gidan Kara, Anas Bin Malik, Bado, and Dan Galadima Community Arabic Secondary School.
“Modernaisatio of Almajiri Qur’anic and Islamic Schools also deal generally with matters incidental to the promotion of Islamic education by organising public enlightenment programmes through radio, television, lectures, etc.,” he added.
