The new Commissioner for Health in Sokoto State, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, has expressed the commitment of Governor Ahmed Aliyu-led administration to bring health service to the doorsteps of the people.
Speaking with RM Times after her inauguration as Commissioner, she said they would ensure policies and programmes towards efficient, effective and accessible delivery of health service in the state.
“My vision is to move Sokoto State forward through introducing important programmes and initiatives that would reduce the suffering of people in Sokoto State, especially youth and women,” she disclosed.
“We will ensure children are fully immunised and that there’s adequate antenatal care services across the state.”
The Commissioner said they would also promote nutrition services in all facilities and at the community level.
She spoke about malnutrition, mainly as it affects women and children, highlighting the ill- effects of nutritional deficiency during pregnancy.
Hajiya Asabe identified poverty as an underlying cause, adding, “Poverty brings malnutrition.”
She underscored the need to empower communities to improve their health and well-being.
