As part of efforts to boost girl child education, Special Junior Girls Science Schools are to be created in all the 23 local government areas of Sokoto State.
The state government had established Special Science Academy in the state’s three senatorial zones, one of which is Government Girls Science Academy Kasarawa.
The Special Junior Girls Science Schools would serve as a feeder to the three academies, the Commissioner Ministry of Science and Technology Sokoto Kulu Haruna Abubakar revealed.
Speaking with the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Sokoto, she said the ministry had created a new unit viz Women and Youth Technological, Innovation and Invention.
According to her, the unit had enrolled over 200 artisans. On information and communication technology, she disclosed that the state government had expanded the responsibilities of the ministry to include handling of all ICT requirements by a government ministry, parastatals, and agencies through the ICT Directorate.
“As part of the government’s effort to improve the structures of ICT in the state, the Directorate has been fully equipped, and approval has been given for training of officials from the state USA,” she disclosed.
The commissioner also revealed that biometric analysis of all the secondary schools in the state was ongoing.
She recalled that in recognition of the Sokoto State’s significant strides in ICT, the National Information and Technology Development (NITDA) recently honoured the state with the e-government best State award.
