The new Sports facility under construction by the Sokoto State government is an impressive investment, Minister of Sports and Youths Development, Mr Sunday Dare, has said.
During an official visit to the facility in Sokoto, he said that with 68% of those involved in sports in the country being youths between the ages of 12-35, investing in such infrastructure is a futuristic and veritable avenue for earning huge revenue.
He noted it would benefit the state and the federal government, assuring it would avail itself of the opportunity of the facility for national and international events.
The minister lauded the quality of the work at the facility. He applauded the Governor for investing in the provision of the facility and the youths in Sokoto state, the northern states, and the country.
In his remarks, Governor Tambuwal underscored the importance of sports in uniting people. He also noted the role of sporting activities in improving health and job creation.
The Governor disclosed that the state government had spent about N3.5 billion on the project, which has an 11,500 fans capacity stadium and an indoor sports hall that could hold 1000 people at a time.
The facility will have nine badminton courts, three basketball courts, three tennis courts and one handball field. Others include two squash courts, two aerobic halls, three gymnastics halls, table tennis and pool hall, taekwondo and karate floors.
