A visionary new initiative, ‘Enhancing Women’s Participation in Politics and Decision-Making in Sokoto,’ launches, igniting hope and marking a bold step for the state.
The Sokoto-based NGO, Productive Community for Sustainable Development Initiative (PCSDI), spearheads the project with support from the Canada Fund for Local Initiative.
The launch brought together government officials, leaders, politicians, civil society, and other key stakeholders to exchange ideas and set the project’s course.
Nura Bello, Executive Director of PCSDI, said the project aims to boost women’s political participation, address barriers to involvement, and promote inclusive governance in Sokoto.
He said the project will inspire and empower women by raising awareness, fostering supportive spaces, and igniting community dialogue on participation.
Bello outlined the project’s plans to offer training, mentorship, and leadership workshops to help women build skills and confidence and pursue leadership.
He said the project will work with traditional and religious leaders, politicians, and the media to achieve its objectives.
The Executive Director assured that all programs would respect cultural and religious values in promoting inclusion in the state.
Hajia Hauwa U Jabo, Director at the Sokoto State Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, formally launched the project and praised its goals.
She expressed the ministry’s willingness to collaborate with relevant agencies that advance women’s causes.
Hajia Inno Attahiru, a former aspirant for the Wurno/Raba Federal Constituency, encouraged women to rise above the challenges posed by male dominance in politics and to pursue their ambitions boldly.
Also speaking, Hajia Jamila Gatawa, Deputy Director at the Ministry of Budget and Planning, described the project an inspiring milestone for women’s empowerment and passionately urged stakeholders to unite in support.
