National President of the Network Against Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL), Mr Abdulganiyu Abubakar, has stressed the need to enhance awareness creation on safe, regular migration and the adverse effects of irregular migration and migrant smuggling.
Abubakar, who is also the Regional Representative of the West African Coalition Against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (WACTIPSOM), urged the Government of Nigeria and Development Partners to provide more financial and technical support to the Nigerian Immigration Service to strengthen efforts in this area.
A statement by Mr Damilola Folorunso, Technical Assistant (Strategic Communication) to the NACTAL National President, indicated that Mr Abubakar made the remarks during his official visit to the headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), where he engaged in productive discussions with the Principal Staff Officer and Personal Assistant to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
The National President said as strategic partners on the defunct A-TIPSOM, a counter-trafficking project, NACTAL and NIS played an essential role in raising awareness on migration, migrant smuggling, and NIS’ mandate and activities.
He commended the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, for the laudable programmes and innovations she has introduced since she assumed office as CGI.
The NACTAL National President thanked the CGI for sustaining the partnership and collaboration between the two entities.
Abubakar, however, called for the revival of the Border Management Thematic Working Group, which was chaired by NIS and co-chaired by NAPTIP.
The statement revealed that the PSO thanked the National President for his visit and assured him of the CGI’s commitment to promoting regular, safe, orderly migration.
