Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS) has matriculated 6,505 students for the 2025/2026 academic session, with the Faculty of Chemical and Life Sciences recording the highest number at 1,146.
Other notable numbers include 1,008 students in the College of Postgraduate Studies and 822 in the College of Health Sciences.
The Faculty of Physical and Computing Sciences admitted 777 students, followed by Education and Extension Services (573), Social Sciences (509), Management Sciences (398), Engineering and Environmental Design (396), and Agriculture (306).
Others include Arabic and Islamic Studies (187), Pharmaceutical Sciences (150), Veterinary Medicine (120), Law (80), and Arts (65).
During his address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Bashiru Garba highlighted the university’s remarkable growth, expanding from just 93 undergraduates in 1977 to 6,505 students in 2026.
“Currently (2026), the university has a total of 17 faculties, a College of Health Sciences (CHS), a College of Postgraduate Studies, a School of Medical Laboratory Sciences, a School of Public Health, 15 research centres/ institutes, a Central Research Laboratory, and other academic and non-teaching units,” the VC stated.
Prof. Garba encouraged the students to embrace resilience and determination as they navigate both academic and personal challenges throughout their university journey.
He reminded them that every challenge is a stepping stone to greatness, and that today’s temporary struggles will shape them into tomorrow’s success stories.
The Vice Chancellor emphasised that true success at Usmanu Danfodiyo University means excelling not only in academics but also in character, as degrees are reserved for those who embody both qualities.
He urged the students to approach every task with excellence and to seize every opportunity to make a lasting impact, noting that their efforts today will pave the way for a brighter future.
