The Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) Nigeria has expressed strong condemnation regarding the recent case of child abuse involving an Abuja-based woman, Fauziya, and a 14-year-old victim of banditry, Bashariya, from Zamfara State.
NACTAL lauded the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) National Headquarters and the Sokoto Zonal Command for their prompt action in the case and urged them to expedite action to ensure justice for Bashariya.
“When the gory images of the Girl Child Bashariya dropped on the desk of NACTAL Nigeria National Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, it was a nightmare never wished to re-occur,” stated Abdulganiyu Abubakar, National President, NACTAL Nigeria/Regional Representative, West Africa Coalition Against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (WACTIPSOM).
“No child deserves to suffer abuse, and it is our collective responsibility to protect and safeguard their rights. We call for a thorough investigation and appropriate action against the perpetrator.”
He added, “We are aware of UNGODLY efforts by certain individuals and groups to compromise this case, including intimidation of the parents of the victim, NAPTIP Staff and legitimate civil society actors just like what happened in the two previous instances involving the same Perpetrator.”
The NACTAL President called on Staff of the Sokoto Zonal Command of NAPTIP, Genuine Civil Society Actors and the general public to remain vigilant and committed to getting justice for the victim and many others
” We stand in solidarity with the victim and her family, and we shall continue to advocate for speedy prosecution of this case,” he stated.
“This is one trauma too many. Every child deserves love, care and protection by everyone regardless of their social status and biological affinity.”
He urged everyone to remain vigilant and report any instances of child abuse, stressing,” Together, we can create a safe environment for our children to thrive.”
