A former Sokoto Governor and Senator representing the Sokoto North Senatorial District, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has expressed profound shock and sorrow over former President Muhammadu Buhari’s passing.
“It is with profound shock, deep sorrow, and a heavy heart that I received the devastating news of the passing of our elder statesman, former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR,” he stated in a condolence message on Sunday.
“Nigeria has lost one of its most iconic and selfless leaders—an incorruptible patriot, a disciplined statesman, and a symbol of integrity who dedicated his entire life to the service of our nation with honour, courage, and unshakable commitment.”
He recalled that from his days as a young military officer to his eventual emergence as Nigeria’s democratically elected President, Muhammadu Buhari stood tall as a beacon of hope, discipline, and forthrightness in national leadership.
“His unwavering resolve to tackle corruption, his passion for infrastructural rebirth, his investment in agricultural revival, and his strides in security sector reforms will remain etched in the annals of our history,” the former Governor noted
“President Buhari governed with a rare blend of simplicity, sincerity, and steadfast vision. Under his leadership, critical national infrastructure witnessed a renaissance—from road and rail development to power and agricultural transformation.”
Senator Wamakko observed that his impact reached every corner of Nigeria, especially the long-neglected northern region, where he championed projects that uplifted the lives of ordinary citizens, acknowledging the value he placed on every part of the nation.
“As a fellow patriot and public servant, I witnessed his commitment to building a better Nigeria—one anchored on integrity, discipline, and inclusivity,” he added.
“His modest lifestyle, even in the highest office, was a moral lesson to all who hold or aspire to public office.”
According to him, “Nigeria has lost a hero, but his legacy shall endure.”
He expressed deepest condolences on behalf of myself, my family, and the good people of Sokoto to his beloved wife, Her Excellency Aisha Buhari, his children, the entire Buhari family of Daura, the Government and People of Katsina State, and indeed, all Nigerians.
Senator Wamakko prayed to Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings, accept his noble deeds and grant him paradise.
