As part of efforts to improve the quality of education delivery in Sokoto, the state government, in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has trained 2,718 teachers and 145 education managers.
Alhaji Tukur Alkali, Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, disclosed this at a press briefing on Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto’s achievements in his one year in office.
He revealed that the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB) screened 1,704 volunteer teachers.
He stated that the state government also trained 150 caregivers across 23 local government areas for the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) initiative.
Regarding school repairs, the commissioner revealed that 22 primary schools in Sokoto North and South local government areas have renovated one block of three classrooms.
He also mentioned the renovation of six toilets and a solar-powered borehole in each school.
According to him, the state government collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Education to establish three vocational schools (junior secondary schools) in the state’s three senatorial districts.
He also discussed school feeding, revealing that the Governor established a committee under the leadership of former Commissioner for Education, Kulu Haruna Abubakar, to assess the quality and quantity of food provided to the students.
