The Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) has commended the federal government for approving the National Action Plan on Human Trafficking as a roadmap to combat the menace in Nigeria.
It lauded the step in a communique signed by the NACTAL National Secretary and North Central Zonal Coordinator, Ositadimma Samuel Osemene and Mrs Imabong Sanusi, respectively, and issued at the end of a three-day workshop held in Nasarawa State.
The workshop was to realign Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) Strategic Plan (2020 -2024) to the National Action Plan on Human Trafficking in Nigeria (2022-2026).
“The National Action Plan speaks to Nigeria’s current Trafficking in Persons (TIPs) challenges,” it said.
“Thus, NACTAL effectively reviewed its strategic plan and aligned same with the National Action Plan.”
NACTAL urged state and non-state actors to ensure they tailor their interventions towards achieving the content of the NAP.
It also urged donor agencies to support the implementation of the NAP as a veritable tool for combating the menace of human trafficking in Nigeria.
To gender adequate support to victims of human trafficking, it called for the sustenance of the existing cordial relationship between NACTAL and the National Agency for the Promotion of Trafficking in Persons.
The network appreciated the support of the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP) and its funders, the European Union, to NACTAL.
It also acknowledged the efforts of its other key strategic partners, such as the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, USAID SCALE Palladium, Expertise France, United Nations Organizations on Drug and Crime (UNODC), and International Organization on Migration. According to NACTAL, their support enhanced the network’s effectiveness.
The workshop had 25 civil society organisations in attendance under the aegis of NACTAL
